Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Everything you need to know about playing, printing, accessibility features, and using Large Word Search in senior care communities.
What makes Large Word Search different from other puzzle sites?
Large Word Search is specifically engineered for seniors, low-vision adults, and casual players. We feature oversized 24px-32px grid letters, WCAG AAA high-contrast colors, soothing low-glare dark view mode, two-tap selection without dragging, zero countdown timers, and no account or subscription paywalls.
How do I select words on the puzzle grid?
We use a comfortable two-tap selection mechanism. Simply tap or click the first letter of a word, then tap or click the last letter. If the letters form a valid hidden word, it highlights automatically. You do not need to drag or hold your finger across the glass, which prevents slip errors for players with arthritis or tremors.
Can I play on touchscreen tablets, iPads, and smartphones?
Yes. Large Word Search is fully responsive and optimized for touchscreens, iPads, tablets, and mobile phones, as well as desktop computers with a mouse or trackpad. Touch targets exceed 48 pixels for easy and accurate tapping.
How do I turn on Low-Glare (dark) mode or change font size?
On every puzzle page, you can click the "Low-Glare" button to toggle a soothing dark contrast view that reduces photophobia, cataracts glare, and eye strain. You can also use the "A+" and "A-" buttons to dynamically scale font size up to 160%.
Is there a time limit or countdown timer?
No. There are never any countdown timers, speed bonuses, or penalties. Our puzzles are designed as a peaceful, self-paced mental stimulation and relaxation activity.
Can I print the word search puzzles for free?
Yes. Click the "Print" button on any puzzle page or visit the Printable Word Searches hub to generate an ink-friendly, black-and-white 8.5x11 inch paper sheet formatted specifically for clear legibility.
Are senior living facilities, nursing homes, and adult day centers allowed to use these puzzles?
Yes, absolutely. We grant free permission under our Terms of Use to Activity Directors, caregivers, nursing homes, assisted living communities, memory care units, hospitals, and schools to print and photocopy worksheets and answer keys for non-commercial resident recreational activities.
Where can I find the answer key for a puzzle?
Every puzzle has a dedicated "Answer Key" link on the play page. You can also toggle the "Show Answer" button in the game toolbar to preview word coordinates directly on your screen.
Does the site save my game progress if I leave or refresh?
Yes. Your current puzzle progress, found words, font scale, and view preferences are saved automatically in your browser's local storage. You can close the tab and return later without losing your work.
Do I need an account, password, or email to play?
No account, registration, email address, or credit card is ever required. You can start playing immediately upon opening the website.
How does the Word Search Solver (Answer Helper) work?
Our free Word Search Solver tool allows you to type or paste letters from any printed or online word search grid, along with the word list you want to locate. The solver analyzes horizontal, vertical, and diagonal directions to pinpoint every hidden word location.
Who can I contact for puzzle feedback or accessibility suggestions?
We welcome questions, suggestions, theme ideas, and accessibility bug reports. You can reach our team via email at [email protected].
